1.
Microwave popcorn. It’s not necessarily the kernels themselves, it’s the bag. It contains chemicals like perfluorooctanoic acid which can kill the sex drive, and even cause prostate problems in the long run. -
2.
Processed foods. Processing takes away most of the nutrients in foods. For example, whole wheat loses about 3/4 of its zinc, which is essential to men’s sexuality and reproduction. -
3.
Strawberries. Produce with edible skins have some of the highest levels of estrogen-mocking pesticides, which are bad for the bedroom. -
4.
Deli meats. The stuff that wraps meat and cheese in the grocery store is usually PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, which seeps into fatty foods and brings on hormonal changes. Buy your meat from the butcher directly and have wrapped in brown paper. -
5.
Coffee. Drinking coffee has been shown to help men with their sex game, but if you’re prone to getting anxious or jittery from coffee, it could have the opposite effect. Why? Increased anxiety is a sex drive killer. -
6.
Diet sodas. Artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame, directly effect your serotonin levels. Serotonin fosters happiness, and having low levels of it is associated with lower libido in men and women. -
7.
Graham crackers. Ironically, Dr. Sylvester Graham invented Graham’s Honey Biskets in 1929 for the distinct purpose of suppressing “carnal desires…” and he might have been on to something. They’re loaded with refined carbohydrates that zap testosterone level. -
8.
Mint. Menthol lowers testosterone, so brush your teeth instead of chewing on a leaf. -
9.
Licorice. The main compound of licorice that gives it its flavor is glycyrrhizic acid. It can also suppress testosterone production. In one study 7 men were given 7 grams of licorice each day, and 4 days into the study their total testosterone levels had decreased by 35 percent. -
10.
Cheese. This might be the most heartbreaking inclusion. A lot of the cheese Americans eat comes from cow’s milk, which is filled with synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones could possibly mess up your body’s natural production of hormones like estrogen and testosterone. -
11.
Cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts may not kill your sex drive, but they do impact secretions like semen, sweat, urine and breath… which lead to bad smells. They also increase the odor of flatulence. You get the idea. -
12.
Shrimp. The pesticides added to shrimp to prevent them from discoloration are also “endocrine disruptors,” which mean they mess with our male/female hormones… which mess with our libido of course. -
13.
Edamame. If you’re going for sushi on your big date, think twice about your appetizer. They’re actually soybeans, and high levels of soy in a woman’s body can decrease sex hormones. Plus, just a half serving of soy per day can even slash sperm count by 40 percent in healthy males. -
14.
Canned soup. Your comforting chicken noodle might be making things not-so-comforting in the bedroom. Canned food items are known for being high in dietary sodium, and that can lead to elevated blood pressure and low blood flow to certain parts of the body… including those parts of the body. If you’ve had canned soup before you’re supposed to get it on, counteract it with dark chocolate. -
15.
Beets. Beets, like many other root veggies, contain compounds to support estrogen levels in your body. That’s all great, except if you have an existing hormonal imbalance. If that’s the case, steer clear!
